The Early Years A word from our Chairman Himalaya Store

Research & Development

Drug-induced complications are widespread. Modern medication produces extreme side-effects as the drug-formulations are synthetic and can trigger adverse immune responses. Moreover, allopathic therapies have conventionally treated symptoms and ignored the holistic approach, thereby causing recurrence of those symptoms. It is also true that traditional medicine is characterized by a lack of standardization which in turn spawns inconsistent results.

Recognising these deficiencies in both the modern and traditional medical systems, the founder Mr. M. Manal based the product-development policy of his Company on in-depth research and quality control. Towards this end, the Company follows a commited programe of intensive detailed primary research, on each of its medications, sometimes for a period of upto ten years before making the products available to the consumer. This policy manifests in every facet of its R&D wing. In its quest to evolve error-free, safe medical formulas, the R&D center of the Company exercises utmost care researching herbs and empirically validating their efficacy and safety before finalizing any formulation.

In order to provide herbal solutions for modern ailments, the R&D center pursues ongoing research projects in several of its facilities, each of which concentrates on the following activities:

Pharmacognosy
Establishes the bona fides of herbal materials through morphological and microscopic studies and maintains an herbarium of phyto-medical materials.

Formulation and Development
Carries out pre-formulation studies to check bio-chemical action of ingredients. Conducts trials to assess the safety and efficacy of formulations and accelerated stability trials to check the physical, chemical, microbiological and biological aspects. Standardizes the process to ensure uniform quality and transfers technology to the production department.

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer

Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer testing ensures that no heavy metals are present in the end products

Immuno-pharmacology
Studies the mechanism of action of drugs at the molecular level to understand the endogenous mediators involved in the activity. Works on developing immuno-protective agents in opportunistic infections and for AIDS, carcinogenic malignancy, septic shock, organ transplantation and chronic infections.

Veterinary pharmacology
Studies the safety and efficacy of veterinary formulations in experimental and clinical trials in different species of animals and the mechanism of action in the formulations.

The focus of the Company’s research station in Bangalore has always been product development, quality monitoring and standardization. This passion for quality has paid rich dividends. The R&D wing is recognized as an accredited research center by a national university.
